There are a lot of “tried and true” methods to breaking in a
new baseball glove. When it comes time to determine which one is truly the
best, though, you’re likely to get a hundred different opinions from as many
people. Everyone thinks they have the perfect way to break in a glove. Some say
that all it takes is a little glove oil. Others believe in letting it sit under
a chair or other heavy object. Some people even stomp on their gloves or beat
them over and over. While some of these methods can work, they can also do
damage to that brand new glove. For a trick that won’t damage your glove and
that’s guaranteed to work, take a walk on the weird side.
To break in your traditional baseball glove using this
method, grab a bucket. Empty a whole can of shaving cream- and notice we said
cream NOT gel- into the bucket. Grab your glove, put a baseball in the pocket,
and tie it all closed. After you’re done, toss the glove in the bucket and
empty another can of shaving cream over the top of it. Then, let it sit for
several hours
.
Your glove will look pretty messy when you finally take it
out, but don’t panic! Just let it dry completely at room temperature. When it
finally does dry all the way, it will be soft and perfect for play. Just trust us on this one! It WILL work
without causing damage to your new glove.
